This week’s favorite is First Rains.

My favorite time of the year is when the air is damp and chilly, and everything sparkles with water droplets. That time of year has finally come!

I feel like there are so many people who don’t like the stormy, gray weather in fall, but I’ve never understood why. I think one of the absolute best things in this life is rain.

One of my dearest friends also has an obsession with rain, and so one night while I was at her house it started pouring, and we had this one moment of looking at each other, the next we were sprinting down the stairs and throwing open the door.

That night started a tradition of going on runs in the rain. Barefoot. In shorts and tank tops. It’s the most amazing thing when you first step outside and your feet go numb, but you don’t care because you feel free.

Something about the water on my skin and in my hair is magical and liberating.

I fly through the rain. Everything looks so clean, like the water has washed away all the dirt and bad things in the world.

Everything smells like wet pavement. My favorite smell ever with its sweet earthy scent that lingers in the air and on my clothes after a pour.

And later, there’s nothing better than grabbing all the blankets in the house and creating the ultimate fort, to burrow into it with a steamy cup of tea, spending hours reading or catching up on a favorite show. The gentle sound of rain drumming on the roof and windows makes the experience that much better. Homemade chocolate chip cookies are a bonus!

What is your favorite thing to do when the sky starts to open and the rain comes pouring down?
